Fat Loss Foodies Announcement: Welcome Back Alaina!
Fat Loss Foodies is excited to announce that our long lost FLF sister Alaina Farley is BACK!
If you've been following FLF for a while, you may remember Alaina, but if you're new, you may not. When FLF started growing quickly, I asked Alaina to join me in my mission to teach women how to cook & eat real food for fat loss. She started helping out with blogging, social media, events, and also helping me run Fat Loss Cooking School.
Last Spring, Alaina took a break to start building her little family (she just had a baby girl 2 months ago!) but now she's ready to get back in action! So here's everything you need to know about Alaina from the woman herself! You can connect with her on Instagram HERE.
My name is Alaina Farley and I'm the long lost Fat Loss Foodie. Some of you may recognize me but I wanted to reintroduce myself and let you know what I've been up to for the last year. Here's a little about me and a quick recap to get acquainted:
I have been a Fat Loss Foodie since before Leslie Ann coined the phrase. I've always loved food but haven't always had a healthy relationship with it. I grew up being very active with any activity and sport I could convince my parents to let me try. I ran track, played soccer and volleyball, cheered, danced, acted, and spent most of my free time playing with my little sister. I ate a fairly balanced diet and had tons of energy because let's face it - I was a teenager.
Then came college. I was very unhealthy and my weight yo-yoed because of stress eating, taking in too much sugar and alcohol, and irregular sleep patterns. I wasn't involved in any activities, so the balance of my life was seriously altered.
After college I bartended for a number of years, and it wasn't until I started training for races and amping up my fitness that I was able to establish a baseline for what my body needed to be fueled properly. I needed smaller meals, more frequently with loads more protein and fiber with carefully placed carbs throughout the day to give me maximize energy for the training I was doing. (Sound familiar?! 😉) I was doing at-home workouts (you know, P90X, Insanity, etc) and running smaller races like 5Ks and half marathons. Fast forward to the next stage in my life......
Les Mills!!! When Beachbody paired with Les Mills to do at-home workouts, my husband and I were OBSESSED! Seriously. We didn't follow the workout plan; we just alternated BODYPUMP and BODYCOMBAT with a few core and yoga sessions thrown in to mix it up. This is when I really dialed into my nutrition and started to pay attention to the quality of food I was eating. I started cutting out my unhealthier habits like late night meals and enormous quantities of ice cream (it's kinda my weakness) and finding healthier alternatives. I would modify menu items to suit my needs and started opting for protein and produce so each workout was on point.
After months of wearing out our Les Mills DVDs we were fortunate enough to attend an event with some stellar trainers who encouraged us to become certified Les Mills instructors. SAY WHAT?! We could DO that?! Turns out we could. We contacted or local gym, attended a class and were immediately sponsored to attend an Initial Training.
This is where I met Leslie Ann (aka "LAQ") - and my life hasn't been the same since. We kept in touch and after 2 years of intermittent contact and running into each other at events, we took the next step in our friendship.
In January of 2015, my family and I were on vacation in Acapulco. I had suffered a major calf tear in my soleus and was on crutches the whole time. Even with limited movement, I was able to maintain my weight with smart eating and of course, plenty of sleep (vacations are great for lowering stress and getting the right sleep habits to maintain fat loss). I found I felt stronger and healthier when I made my return to group exercise classes because I had been smart on vacation.
My fat loss lifestyle paired with more sleep and less training were exactly what my body needed. LAQ and I talked and the rest was history. Fat Loss Foodies was growing, so I came on board to help with blogging, social media, events, and also helping run Fat Loss Cooking School. It's always good to have multiple perspectives when it comes to food and fitness! I was in 100% and I loved interacting with strong women with amazing stories.
May 2016: my husband and I were surprised to find out I was pregnant. Of course it's no surprise how it happened rather that it happened when it did. We had just returned from the trip of a lifetime spending a month in Australia and New Zealand and were feeling so ready to tackle our daily lives again when BOOM. Major life change. I didn't have the picture perfect pregnancy I've heard so much about nor was I able to eat what I wanted (hello aversions to ALL foods) or teach the classes in my regular lineup. My life had been flipped upside down and it took me all year to find a new normal and balance that I had been used to for so many years.
So here we are. My daughter is now 8 weeks old and I am happy to announce that I am ready to return, punching and swinging my way to a stronger and healthier me. My eating habits are closer to what I'm used to, though eating for two is different (I'll show you in A Day in the Life on the FLF Facebook page soon!) and I'm finally able to teach classes again.
I teach Les Mills BODYCOMBAT, BODYATTACK, CXWORX, and BODYFLOW at my local gym. I also assess BODYCOMBAT and BODYFLOW, which means I help Les Mills group fitness instructors in the final stages of completing their certifications. I'm an ACE-Certified Group Fitness Instructor and am working on my Personal Training Certification. I'm also in the final stages of completing my Metabolic Effect Nutrition Certifications. During the day, I'm a Buyer and Quality Manager for a big government contractor. I'm a wife and mother to a stunning little girl and 3 fur kids. I'm a Fat Loss Foodie. That's me in a nutshell! 😁
I can't wait to interact with you all and help you in your journeys to find the ultimate versions of you.
So, HELLO FLF Girls! It's so good to be back!
